Track 4: Business Process Management and Modeling

Business processes cover all activities that are necessary to fulfill a business goal. Hence, they form the backbone of any company. Business Process Management deals with assuring the efficiency, effectiveness, quality and the fit of business processes with the requirements of the market and the company characteristics and is therefore an essential task of business planning. Conceptual Models have proven to be a useful means in Business Process Management. They are applied in different design phases of Business Process Management, and they support, amongst others, the documentation, analysis, improvement, reuse and implementation of business processes, data used in business processes, organization responsible for executing business processes, and IT systems supporting business processes.

The track provides a forum in which both researchers and practitioners can present and discuss innovative methods, models and tools for Business Process Management and Conceptual Modeling. It is open to all research paradigms, however it focuses design-oriented research. Besides classic conceptual contributions, we appreciate both contributions with a business management focus and technical contributions with a formal focus.

Topics include (but are not restricted to)
  • (Domain specific) modeling methods, meta modeling
  • Semantic modeling, linguistics, ontologies
  • Model design assistance – methods and tools
  • Structural and semantic model analysis – methods and tools
  • Reference modeling, reference models, model standardization
  • Business process and model variant management
  • Distribution and integration of business processes and models
  • Implementation of business processes and models
  • Strategic aspects of Business Process Management
